In collaboration with LM International, the Somali Innovation Hub (SiHUB) hosted a Tech
Peace dialogue in Galkacyo with the goal of accelerating grassroots innovation for social
challenge solutions in Somalia using ICT tools. The discussion focused on promoting social
innovations through digital transformation opportunities, emphasizing the role of technology
in Galkacyo’s peace and social integration. Gaalkacyo, is Somalia’s fourth most populous city,
with a history of security vulnerability, social division, and youth radicalization, with scores of
public figures and government officials killed by online radicalized youth.
Over 75 youth (girls and boys) aged 15 – 25 attended the event, including leaders of youth
organizations from Puntland and Galmudug Somalia states, government officials, social
media influencers, representatives, and ICT experts gathered to explore technological
opportunities, challenges, and better methods for fostering youth networking in order to
share knowledge and entrepreneurial ideas for job creation.
